Monkey Soup Boogie
South Florida may be the promised land for laid back retirees, but there’s nothing laid back about Barney McGee’s retirement. A notorious developer has set his sites on Barney’s mobile home park--he wants to level it, and build high rise condos. Then the park resident’s lawyer is murdered. And who is the mysterious Night Stalker, who is planting bombs under Barney’s house? Could it be the work of the developer? Barney and Willey, and Willie’s pet monkey, (yes, pet monkey), Oscar, set out on a Quixotic mission to stop the developer any way they can . . . short of murder.
I really enjoyed this story. It had just the right combination of mystery and comedy to make it an enjoyable read. The main characters were like-able and the plot had enough twists and turns to keep it intriguing. Overall if you like a thrilling mystery with a hint of humour, this is worth a read.

I loved the story and the characters. I do hope you continue - perhaps with an entire series - of this storyline and its inhabitants. Funny, engaging, and it made me laugh loud enough to draw strange looks from other family members. Way to go, Mr. Gannon!

Thanks very much for a very good read.
I just had to tell you how much I enjoyed Monkey Soup. Finally, someone has written about my age group and showed them in a most entertaining and delightful way. So true the body discomforts and all the rest that goes with old age. I love detective stories and murder mysteries, but this author managed to kill a few off in a way that even those who hate murder mysteries would not be offended. Oscar, the monkey, was an inspirational addition. I came to enjoy Oscar's antics as much as the two old duffers and not quite so old lady.

Adventurous and funny
First let me say the title intrigued me. This story was a little bit adventurous, funny and I was holding my breath about some plots. I enjoyed it quite a bit and am looking forward to reading more books by Robert Gannon.
