The Way of the Bow
“The Way of the Bow” relates the story of Tetsuya, the best archer of the country, who conveys his teachings to a boy in his village. Throughout the story, several essential thoughts are reflected: our daily efforts and work, how to overcome difficulties, steadfastness, and courage to take risky decisions.
Paulo Coelho has managed to express many of the values which inspire our daily work: innovation, flexibility, adaptation to changes, enthusiasm, and team work.
A stranger to a village challenges a local carpenter, Tetsya, to a contest with his bow and arrow, stating he knows the carpenter to in fact be a famous archer. Tetsya is indeed an excellent archer who wanted to remain anonymous and he agrees to the contest on the condition that if he wins, the stranger leaves and tells no one of his whereabouts. After winning, Tetsya tells the village boy who accompanied the stranger to his workshop of the way of the bow. The story tells of all the things that an archer must be aware of and learn to perfect his craft. All aspects of the bow can be seen ot have a direct correlation with life itself. How to overcome difficulties, take risks, adapt to change, to find allies in those who let you be yourself or who add to your skills despite their own being vastly different.
Though short, it is a nice story which imparts some good advice for life and how to approach day to day living using the metaphor of the bow.

Worth the read
A fun quick read. It would be interesting to have these characters and a plot be the focus of the book instead of the life lessons.
